What is Straight Talk?

It’s an investment in your business!  Information, clarification, and honest answers from the viewpoint that is important to you. No topic is off limits.  You’ll also earn 1.5 hours of training as you learn about issues that help you be better prepared to manage your program.  Scroll down to learn about NCLCCA and Who We Are.

How is this Information Important?

Here are a few things we introduced LAST YEAR, in the summer of 2016.   They  have either come down the line already or will be soon.  If you attended a 2016 Straight Talk, you would have known something about these things and could have been more prepared:

  • Health and Safety training (medication administration, shaken baby syndrome, abusive head trauma, etc.)
  • New WORKS online system that holds education data
  • Blended rates for school age children in subsidy (which has been modified in a good way since it was first introduced)
  • NCFAST allowance for 15 paid days off (vacation, holidays, staff development) in addition to inclement weather days off in a new policy
  • A bill to require lead testing of drinking water (which didn’t pass but has been introduced in 2017 again)
  • A bill to resolve the time delays for criminal record checks (which didn’t pass but we are still working on and have seen recent technological advances on)

Why Attend in 2017?

  • New Center Rules will be in some phase of implementation by July, and we’ll be able to explain the changes.
  • The NC General Assembly will be making decisions that could have a huge impact on child care, NC Pre-K, subsidy, etc.
  • We will have new DCDEE leadership and NCLCCA can share what we’ve learned about the new administration's goals for the Division.
  • NCFAST will be partially implemented and NCLCCA is a leader when it comes to asking tough questions and speaking out to ensure accurate and timely payments for providers.
  • Sometimes it's just a relief to hear that there are others out there facing the same challenges!

Who is NCLCCA?

We are the NC Licensed Child Care Association and we are the only organization in the state whose primary purpose is to support child care providers.   We are YOUR voice in front of the state legislature, the Child Care Commission and DCDEE.

We read emails, attend meetings in Raleigh, serve on focus groups and advisory committees, make phone calls to get clarifications, and more.  THEN we share the relevant parts with our members so you know what’s coming down the line that might affect your business.

We are made up of people like you.  We work with children, staff and families every day.  We bring providers together to share ideas and learn from each other.
