Early Educator Certification
The Child Care Commission has moved forward on rulemaking that would add definitions and "equivalencies" to the rated license education standards. As part of the process, ten or more letters were received by the Office of Administrative Hearings Rules Review Commission requesting legislative review, and therefore the rules will be on hold until there is an opportunity for lawmakers to take a look during the 2012 short session.
NCLCCA heard loud and clear from child care providers (both members and non-members) the significant problems that both teachers and administrators were having as a result of the mandatory EEC requirement that was rushed through the legislature last summer. The NCLCCA’s legislative agenda is member-driven and consistent with our goal to provide affordable, accessible high-quality child care for NC children and families, which is critical to North Carolina’s economy and communities.
We are grateful that state legislators listened to providers in their communities and also recognized numerous problems with mandatory EEC. We appreciate their willingness to work with NCLCCA and providers to remove the requirement for this burdensome, confusing, costly system. Their action has helped teachers and directors save valuable time and resources that are better spent serving our children and families. Click the "Read More" button below for additional information.
