October 9, 2020UPDATE: Child Care Commission Adopts Temporary Rules for School-Age Care
At a meeting on Oct. 5, the NC Child Care Commission adopted “Temporary Rules” (10A NCAC 09 .3101-.3104) regarding care for school-age children during the current State of Emergency. The Temporary Rules have been in effect since August 14 as “Emergency Rules,” which the Commission approved on Aug. 5 for 60 days. Now that they’ve been adopted as Temporary Rules, the Rules Review Commission (RRC) will review them at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 15. Once approved by the RRC, they will become effective for 270 days (until Aug 13, 2021) unless the State of Emergency caused by the pandemic ends sooner. As previously reported, the temporary rules are intended to help address the need for full-day school age care during the pandemic with many public schools still not open for in-person learning. They include changes to help licensed centers expand capacity for school-age care for those that want to do so. Commission members also heard from DCDEE Director Ariel Ford, who gave a brief Director’s Report that included the following:
