What we shared last year

If you attended a 2017 Straight Talk, you likely learned about the following in advance of your competition:

  • We shared that new subsidy rules were coming related to compliance, fraud, and unannounced visits.

  • We provided a heads up on rules that were effective 10/1/17, including professional development requirements, the new Pre-K rule around suspension and expulsion, swaddling requirements, manufacturer’s instructions for furniture, and flavored milk for school-agers.

  • We discussed smoking signs, the number of signs you really need, where they needed to be placed, and we provided attendees with free signs!

  • We clarified that tightly fitted lids were not required for all trash cans in your center, saving you $30 in having to replace all your cans! We further clarified disposal of bio-contaminants.

  • We shared our concerns around administrative action rules (which have been delayed and are still in process of discussion and improvement because of our advocacy work).

  • We talked about federal changes around CCDBG (Child Care Development Block Grant) including a new focus on homelessness and avoiding suspensions and expulsions.

  • We provided guidance on how you could best take advantage of the legislative market rate increase to maximize revenues.

  • We shared with you the ways the Child Care Commission planned to reorganize the child care rulebook so that you could be prepared!

Why attend in 2018?

  • Do you know the difference between owner and facility, or why it matters? You’ll want to hear this if you have multi-site locations, or if you take subsidy.

  • Do you know the new rule about ages of kids that can be grouped together?

  • What if you receive an administrative action for something not in the rules? Can DCDEE do that?

  • How many citations can your center receive in one visit before it triggers an administrative action?

  • Do you know about “pattern of noncompliance” and what it means for your center?

  • Are you having trouble collecting all the money owed to you from NC FAST?  Do you have recommendations for other ways DCDEE can identify fraud?

  • What’s the latest with Criminal Background Check? What if a teacher’s recheck expires and they are on probation? Can you still be cited?

Do you ever wonder if other people feel the same way you do?  Do you question whether or not you’re the only one with challenges?

Who is NCLCCA?

We are the NC Licensed Child Care Association and we are the only organization in the state whose primary purpose is to support child care providers.  We are YOUR voice in front of the state legislature, the Child Care Commission and DCDEE.

We read emails, attend meetings in Raleigh, serve on focus groups and advisory committees, and make phone calls to get clarifications.  THEN we share with our members so you know what’s coming down the line that might affect your business.

We are made up of people like you. We are not funded through the state or federal government. We work with children, staff and families every day.  We bring providers together to share ideas and learn from each other.
